FORT PIERCE, Fla. – A representative from U.S. Rep. Dana Trabulsy’s office toured the Family Community Health Center’s Fort Pierce location on Monday, June 29, getting a look at the services the center has provided the community for decades.
Myishea White, a representative for Trabulsy, walked through the center’s adult care, pediatrics, behavioral health, dental and pharmacy departments. She was hosted by Dr. Wilhelmina Lewis, FCHC’s CEO and president; Robert Cruz, center administrator; and Lisa Hatch, director of community engagement, philanthropy and special projects.
FCHC requested the visit to introduce the congresswoman’s office to the center’s mission and its long-standing presence in St. Lucie County, according to center staff. The Delaware Avenue location is one of several FCHC sites serving patients from newborns to seniors, and the tour gave White a chance to see those services under one roof and hear from the staff who run them.
The pharmacy fills more than 1,000 prescriptions a week, giving patients access to medications they might not otherwise afford.
FCHC also partners with local organizations to distribute free diapers and children’s books on-site, pairing material support with early literacy efforts for families.
The dental team sees more than 100 patients a week, part of the center’s effort to close gaps in oral health care access. FCHC also offers behavioral health services.
Federally qualified health centers like FCHC serve patients regardless of ability to pay, often on a sliding fee scale tied to income. Visits like White’s are typically aimed at building awareness of that mission among policymakers who help shape federal funding and health care policy affecting centers like FCHC.
FCHC leadership said they hope the visit strengthens the center’s relationship with Trabulsy’s office as they continue serving Fort Pierce and the surrounding community.
