On October 14th, Dr. Lewis joined Health Center CEOs from across Florida and the Florida Association of Community Health Centers (FACHC) in Tallahassee to meet with state legislators. Their goal was to advocate for two key issues impacting Community Health Centers.
Medicaid Reimbursement Rate (PPS Rate):
They urged legislators to support an increase in the Medicaid Prospective Payment System (PPS) rate, which has remained unchanged for 22 years. This marks the third year of our advocacy efforts. Legislators expressed concern about the potential impact of eliminating Florida’s property tax and its effect on the state budget.
Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) Reform:
They also called for state-level legislation to end predatory contracting practices by PBMs. These practices limit safety-net providers from accessing the savings mandated by law—savings that are vital for funding patient services and expanding access to care.
During the visit, Dr. Lewis met with nine legislators or their staff, including:
- Senators: Kathleen Passidomo, Gayle Harrell, Lori Berman, Mack Bernard
- Representatives: Lauren Melo, Jervonte Edmonds
- Staff Members for: Toby Overdorf, Meg Weinberger, Kaylee Tuck
These conversations were a meaningful step toward strengthening support for Florida’s Community Health Centers and the patients we serve.
