Medicare Eligibility Requirements

  • Citizenship/Residency: Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident who has lived in the U.S. for at least 5 consecutive years.

  • Age: Typically 65 or older.

  • Work History/Benefits: Must receive or be eligible for Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits, or have a qualifying work history (self or spouse).

Medicare Coverage Overview

Part A- Hospital Insurance

Part A helps cover: 

  • Inpatient hospital stays 
  • Skilled nursing facility care
  • Some health care 
  • Hospice Care

Cost: Usually free for those who are eligible. 

Part B- Medical Insurance

 Part B helps cover: 

  • Doctor’s visits
  • Outpatient care 
  • Medical supplies 
  • Preventive services 

Cost: Requires a monthly premium. 

Part C- Medicare Advantage

Part C is an alternative to Original Medicare (Parts A & B) offered through private insurance plans. These plans often include additional benefits like: 

  • Dental coverage 
  • Vision care 
  • Hearing services

Part D – Prescription Drug Coverage

 Part D helps pay for prescription medications and is offered by private insurance companies.
