FLORIDA COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS’s, INC. CLINICIAN SHINES A LIGHT ON NATIONAL TEEN DATING AWARENESS MONTH

Ms. Bracero, APRN, takes the lead to make our community healthier one child at a time.

Fort Pierce, FL – Florida Community Health Centers, Inc. (FCHC), a leader in Florida’s primary and preventive healthcare, recently partnered with the Boys and Girls Club to bring awareness to the abuse that takes place in teen relationships. February is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, where organizations around the U.S. enlighten teens on the dangers of an abusive relationship. The staff at FCHC, led by nurse Marisa Bracero, presented “LOVE IS,” where they introduced the concept of healthy relationships to the teens at the Boys and Girls Club.

Nurse Ms. Bracero’s presentation involved interactive dialogue where she asked adolescents their definitions of love and highlighted the difference between healthy and abusive relationships. The teens participated in hands-on activities where they were given different scenarios and had to decide if the situations were healthy or unhealthy. She opened the floor up, where the adolescents had conversations about what are healthy, unhealthy and abusive behaviors.

“Ms. Bracero has risen to the occasion with taking the lead with our Adolescent Health Program,” said Charlette Hayes, Center Administrative Director of the Fort Pierce Center, “we couldn’t do this without her.”

Aside from learning the true definition of love, the students were gifted with Valentine’s Day bags and handouts.  The handouts discussed setting boundaries, conflict resolution and contact information for the Fort Pierce Center. Nurse, Ms. Bracero will be presenting this topic again this Saturday, February 16th, 2019 at the East Coast Migrant Head Start Center.
