Position Title: Medical Assistant – Team Lead
ADA: Full time position. Ability to sit for long periods of time and/or stand periodically during work day and lift up to 30 lbs., when necessary. Computer data entry a portion of job duty.
OSHA: Must adhere to universal precautions, to include blood borne pathogen protection, at all times
Role and Responsibilities:
- The Team Leader will be responsible for ensuring that the practice of nursing within FCHC is of the
highest possible quality. Nursing being defined as the non‐laboratory clinical duties performed by all
LPNs, CMAs, and MAs in the department. This will be accomplished by collaboration with the Nurse
Manager, Clinical Support Services Coordinator and the Clinical Coordinator to establish appropriate in‐
service training and lectures for the clinical support staff as needed. - Keeps the Nurse Manager and Clinical Coordinator informed of all significant clinical support issues in
the department. - Keeps the Nurse Manager and Clinical Coordinator informed of all significant clinical support issues in

the department. - Log keeping (abnormal pap smears, sub‐specialty referrals, pregnancy/prenatal, STD, clinical
measures data entry, immunization tracking, indigent pharmacy management, immunizations,
VFC, FCHC, and sample medication monitoring) - Skills: (vital signs, therapeutic injections, immunizations, sterile field/tray setup, instrument
sterilization, oxygen tank use and maintenance, emergency supply use and maintenance,
EKGs, etc.) - Policies and procedures (universal precautions, consent forms, needle disposal, identification
and proper disposal of expired medication, etc.) - Assists Nurse Manager in determining clinical support staffing requirements, including coverage for
sick time, vacations and other absences in the department. - Provides clinical coverage in emergency shortage situations in conjunction with the Nurse Manager and
the Clinical Coordinator. - Participates in introductory period and annual evaluations of clinical support staff in collaboration with
the Nurse Manager, the Director of Nursing, the Clinical Coordinator and the Center Manager. - Assist physicians in the care and treatment of patients, including emergency situations with specific
duties as assigned by the provider and the Clinical Coordinator. - Assist in special procedures such as suturing, bandaging, minor surgical procedures, aseptic technique,
etc. - Counsel patients, especially those with chronic health problems, i.e. diet, medications, etc.
- Refer patients to appropriate community health and social service agencies as well as specialty
referrals as needed and ordered by the provider - Monitor and order all medications for the department (to include VFC and FCHC immunizations), and
prepare monthly VFC reports - Monitor and order all emergency supplies for the department.
- Perform triage and/ or supervise clinical support staff in triaging walk‐in patients and report health
status to the provider as needed. - Ensure proper documentation and maintain complete and accurate records.
- Ensure adequate patient flow at all times in the department.
- Ensure patient educational materials are kept up to date and are given to the patients to include
vaccine information statements as required by law. - Function as a professional nurse member of the health team, under the leadership of the Nurse
Manager and the Director of Nursing. - Actively function and perform all duties of nursing personnel as determined by the staffing needs of
the center. - In absence of Nurse Manager, will function as nurse in charge.
- Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the
patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and
development over the life span. Must be able to identify and categorize each patient’s age‐specific
grouping of needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, or geriatric patients
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Minimum Requirements (experience, training, and education): To effectively fulfill this position, candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Graduate of accredited School of Practical Nursing.
- Current License in the State of Florida.
- Current CPR certification.
